Study Skills Tutoring

Studying at college or university can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re juggling deadlines, complex assignments, and the day‑to‑day demands of academic life.

Our one‑to‑one study skills tutoring is designed to help you build confidence, develop effective strategies, and approach your studies in a way that works for your brain.

Support is available for students aged 16 and over, and sessions can be booked individually or as part of a programme.  Sessions last 1 hour and are available online via  Zoom.

What we can work on

Each session is tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Common areas of support include:

Organisation and time management: Creating realistic plans, managing deadlines, structuring your week, and reducing overwhelm.

Understanding and planning assignments: Breaking tasks into manageable steps, interpreting assignment briefs, and developing clear plans.

Academic writing: Structuring essays, improving clarity, developing arguments, and managing perfectionism.

Research and reading strategies: Finding reliable sources, note‑taking techniques, and approaches to reading that reduce cognitive load.

Referencing and academic conventions: Understanding referencing systems, avoiding plagiarism, and using tools to make referencing easier.

Presenting and communication skills: Planning presentations, managing nerves, and developing clear, confident delivery.

Revision and exam techniques: Memory strategies, revision planning, and approaches to exams that support focus and reduce anxiety.

All strategies are practical, achievable, and adapted to your individual learning style.

Neurodiversity-affirming support

Every student learns differently. Sessions are shaped around your strengths, challenges, and preferences, with full consideration of any neurodivergence such as:

  • dyslexia

  • ADHD

  • autism

  • dyspraxia

  • executive function difficulties

  • processing differences

You’ll learn approaches that genuinely work for your cognitive profile, helping you study more effectively and with greater confidence.

How sessions work

Sessions are usually 1 hour long and take place online via Zoom, offering flexibility and convenience.

You can choose:

  • a single session for targeted support

  • a short series of sessions (usually 3–6 recommended)

  • longer‑term support if you prefer ongoing guidance throughout your course

Together, we’ll identify your goals and create a plan that suits your needs.

Who are these sessions suitable for?

These study‑skills sessions are suitable for anyone aged 16 and over who is studying for academic, vocational, or professional qualifications.

I have supported hundreds of learners across further and higher education, including those completing A‑levels, undergraduate degrees, Master’s programmes, PhDs, and professional doctorates.

My experience spans a wide range of subject areas, from engineering, film production, law, physics, and sociology to creative writing, nursing, and many more.

Whatever you are studying, the focus is on helping you develop effective, personalised strategies that support your learning, confidence, and academic progress.

I am proud to have seen so many of the students I work with successfully complete their courses — including individuals achieving first‑class degrees, distinctions, and other outstanding results.
